I know.... no one has pretty feet but Big Bear has an added problem to his feet! He has this big bone spur on his left foot that has been causing him some discomfort with his shoes! The Dr. said it was caused by a trauma to his foot. Probably years ago he dropped something heavy on his foot or hurt it playing some sport. So.... today he had this bone spur operated on!
I was anxious to observe the surgery.... ready with my camera and the Dr. had told me I could. But, he didn't invite me in till after he had finished breaking the pieces of bone off with a hammer and chisle! As I sat in the waiting room, I could hear the "clank, clank" pounding of metal on metal, hitting the bone through the door. This went on for about 15 minutes! Big Bear said that he was worried he would lose his leg from the knee down from the force of the pounding and breaking away small pieces of bone one at a time! When the Doctor came out of the surgery he was dripping with sweat!
This experience reminded me of the Prophet Joseph Smith who endured
a similar surgery without anesthesia! What a horrifying experience that must have been for a young child and his parents! My love and admiration for the Prophet has increased through this experience!
I cannot even imagine a grown man going through an experience like that without anesthesia, let alone a child! What a strong and faithful young boy he was!!
Dr. Alonso could give me competition in the sewing department! It didn't look half bad by the time he finished! Big Bear is now home on "bed rest" for 7 days
( Ha! We have a Young Adult Conference this weekend! ) and I was left with instructions to shower him with TLC and make sure he did not run out of Coca's and Cheetos! (The doctor has a cute sense of humor!) The doc also reported that Big Bear has very strong healthy bones for a man his age which he said was probably the result of all the "quesadillas" this man consumes! Somehow it was not mentioned that last week he was put on cholesterol medication by this same doctor! There must needs be oposition in all things!
Ewwww.
ReplyDeleteSo glad he got that taken care of!
Hey!
ReplyDeleteI know this is such an old entry, but how did he recover? Was it a lengthy recovery?
I am due to have the exact same procedure on my left foot this July. Super scared, but surgeon told me it won't be too complicated.
TIA! :)
